Advantages
Iconflexible
IconGood comfort
Disadvantages
IconOften overcrowded
The journey from Mannheim to Heidelberg is super fast. You don't have to change trains once. Often there are no seats. The seats are very comfortable and the small rubbish bin next to them is really practical, which keeps the whole thing clean. The toilets have always been clean so far.
Advantages
IconThe Flexible Ride
IconThe single ticket
IconTravelling fast and far
Disadvantages
IconThe late trains
IconThe approximate trains
IconThe volume of the train (squeaking, etc...)
Unfortunately, wifi is not available. However, there are power sockets in first and second class. The seats are not that comfortable as they are often dirty and you don't know what happened. From a scale of one to 10, I would give a 5 when it comes to hygiene and comfort. The service is good, the ticket inspectors are very friendly. The prices for a ticket are pleasant. I have a monthly pass, so I am not forced to pay for a ticket every day.
Advantages
IconShort travel time
IconOn time
Disadvantages
IconSomewhat unhygienic
The journey from Mannheim to Heidelberg was on the S 3. A seat reservation was not possible, but also not necessary. The train was not delayed, which was great. However, the train was very dirty and unhygienic. The seat covers were in need of renewal. The only thing I can say about the technical condition is that the doors worked. The journey time was short, which I appreciated.
Advantages
Icon20 minutes travel time
Disadvantages
IconNone
The journey from Mannheim to Heidelberg was on the S3. It was an extremely short journey, less than 20 minutes. The train was moderately well maintained, not particularly clean, but not noticeably dirty either. Seat reservation is not possible on this type of train. At the time of my journey, however, the train was not particularly full either. The train left on time and arrived in Heidelberg on time.
Advantages
IconOn time
Disadvantages
IconWorn train
The journey from Mannheim to Heidelberg was on S-Bahn line three. Reservations are not possible on this type of train. However, there were plenty of seats available. The train was a bit run down and worn compared to the ICE or IC. However, the toilet was in operation and could be used. There was no wifi here. The train left on time and arrived in Heidelberg on time. In this respect, all expectations of this journey were met.
Advantages
IconShort journey time
IconGood equipment
Disadvantages
IconDefective toilet
The journey from Mannheim to Heidelberg by ICE is a very good alternative to the S-Bahn. The journey is shorter and more relaxed and the train is much better equipped. Due to the short journey time, the defective toilet in my carriage was not a major problem.
