Trains from Venice to Verona

Trains from Venice to Verona leave very frequently throughout the day until late at night. The trains take varying amounts of time to reach Verona, depending on their speed, and stops or train changes on the way. On average, though, you can expect the trip to take between about 1h and 2h 30min during the day and early evening, with longer trips of around 3h in the late evening. They’re plentiful too, so you can pretty much board a train immediately from, early in the morning till around 21:00. Several trains also leave at the same times.

Venice to Verona Train Time: Daily Departures

There are more almost 135 trains from Venice to Verona every day, workings out to almost 1,000 a week. You’ll have absolutely no trouble finding a seat, nor will you have to wait more than a few minutes. The first leave at about 05:00, with the last trains departing just after 23:45. Several trains leave simultaneously during peak hours, at roughly 3min intervals. During off_peak times you’ll still not have to wait longer than about 10min for your train. After around 21:15 the frequency trails off, with the last batch of about 8 trains leaving between 23:00 and 23:45.

How long is the journey by train from Venice to Verona?

The quickest trains from Venice to Verona take from 1h to 2h 30. This is a very busy commuter route, as the cities aren’t that far apart, so the focus during most of the day is on speed and efficiency. The fastest rains take around 55min to make the trip with others getting you there in around 1h 10min. Others take a range of times between about 1h 30min and about 2h25min. These routes are both direct and one_stop routes – the travel time isn’t too dependent on either of these two factors, but rather the length of the intermediate stop.

What are the departure and arrival stations for trains from Venice to Verona?

Departure train station: From early morning till mid_evening all trains depart from Venice Santa Lucia Station. Between the concourse and the main platforms are convenience shops, newsagents and other retail stores, and a food court. Cash machines are available throughout the concourse. The station is on a little island, so to get there you must catch an ACTV canal ferry that takes about 10min. Late night trains leave from Venezia Carpenedo Station (about 20 by local RE 17054 train), Venezia Porto Marghera Station (about 7min on a few RE line trains) and Venice Mestre Station (about 11min on the Line 2 bus). These also have modern facilities.

Arrival train station: You’ll either arrive Verona Porta Vescovo Station, about a 6min RE train ride to the city centre, or at Verona Porta Nuova Station, smack_bang in the city centre itself. You catch a bus there in about 6min too on Lines 11_13 and 90_98. The latter is the main station in Venice, with left luggage facilities, cash machines and several cafés. Porta Vescova is a smaller, regional transit hub. It offers left luggage storage and its small ticket office doubles as a magazine shop.

Which train companies travel from Venice to Verona?

Trenitalia operates the vast majority of trains from Venice to Verona, using one of their three services. The fastest is to board one of its Frecciarosso trains, as these are the ones that make the quickest trips. Its Regionale and Regional Veloce trains take a bit longer, except for the ones that run late at night. The longer trips usually require a change of train at an intermediate station. Italo takes slightly longer on its direct trips, but will also get you there in roughly 1h, give or take about 5min each way. These all take the same route and travel durations remain consistent throughout the day with this provider. The advantages of travelling with Trenitalia is are that their express trips are the fastest, and that they’re available at short intervals throughout the day. Italo trains are quicker on average than Trenitalia, but there are far fewer trains per day.

Trenitalia trains from Venice to Verona

Trenitalia is one the main high_speed rail services in Italy. Its Frecciarosso trains are the quickest, and they’ll get you to Verona from Venice in about 55min. They also use their Regionale and Regionale Veloce trains on this route, which take slightly longer to reach their destination. The travel times on these trains amounts to around 1h 25min to about 2h, depending on whether you make a change in_between. This change is quite an insignificant one, as you’ll arrive in Verona at Porta Nuova Station, and then just stay on board for about a 6min ride to the Fiera Station. You’ll have enough time to change trains at Porta Nuova without having to rush.

Italo trains from Venice to Verona

Italo is Italy’s other main high_speed operator and it offers far fewer trains to Verona from Venice per day, but they are very predictable and all take the same amount of time. They don’t require any changes, travelling directly from Venice Santa Lucia Station and arriving at Verona Porta Nuova Station about 1h to 1h 15min later. The first one leaves just before 06:00, with the last departing Venice at around 19:00.

Train Venice to Verona: Services on Board

These Trenitalia short commuter trains don’t have restaurant cars, but they do have bar coach where you can buy light snacks and drinks. The Trenitalia FRECCE online entertainment service offers news, movies and TV shows. You can access it using your mobile device or laptop over the free on_board Wi_Fi service. Bicycles are allowed if they are either disassembled and placed in a travel bag or foldable. You can also bring small dogs and other pets in a certified container. First and Second class tickets are available, and you can choose the type of service you want, from Standard to Business, Premium or Executive. On_board staff are trained to assist passengers with limited mobility needs. You can bring two reasonably_sized hold luggage items plus one carry_on item. Italo has the same luggage policies, and also allows you to bring a bicycle, but it is must be in an acceptably sized bag. You can bring dogs or cats with you up to about 11 lb (5 kg) in weight in a suitable travel container. There are four classes, known as Ambiences: Club Executive, Prima, Comfort and Smart. Prima and Comfort are equivalent to First and Second class. The trains have two wheelchair spaces and priority seats for limited mobility passengers.

They operated by Trenitalia Regionale and take varying times between different stations. The quickest one takes about 2h 20min, and the slowest around 3h, so these aren’t long or overnight train trips.

Travelling by train: Sustainable journey

Trenitalia uses trains the use up to 30% less energy on all their routes. The engines are also fitted with KERS units that recovering the heat energy caused by braking to return around 15% of what they consume to the electricity grid. Their trains are constructed from 20% recycled materials. Italo has a Green Policy whereby 90% of materials used are recycled. This alone reduces the carbon train’s emissions to about 31 lb (14 kg) on average.

How to find cheap train tickets from Venice to Verona?

There are two good ways to find cheap tickets to Verona from Venice. The first is to remain very flexible about when you travel, both in terms of your travel date and the time at which you depart. This will allow you to snap up discounted tickets that pop up at the last minute as passengers cancel. Train companies will often slash these prices rather than travel with empty seats. You can also book well in advance when the opposite applies and train operators are trying to reach a minimum viable capacity for each train, thus sometimes offering early_bird discounts. You can also look for the longer train rides, or those that make more changes on the way, as this extra hassle is often compensated for by lower ticket prices.

To Verona by train—travel tips

Verona was the setting for Shakespeare’s "Romeo and Juliet", which in itself remains a major tourist drawcard. The city’s main architectural landmark is Castelvecchio and Ponte Scaligero, an imposing fortress on the Adige River banks, built in 1355. Inside you’ll find the Civico Museo d’Arte, containing original works by Rubens, Bellini and many more. You can also take a short walk up the Corso Cavour to Acro dei Gavi, an arched Roman stone gate built in the first_century. The Roman Amphitheatre is another dominant feature of the city, the Arena di Verona. These days it hosts the Verona Opera Festival in the European summer.
