Best Things to do in Italy: Travel Tips
Italy is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and picking your favourite place can be incredibly difficult. You could go there for the history, vibrant cities, architecture, quaint villages, islands, mountains, or beaches, and you'd still have a plethora of choices. With that in mind, here are 5 of the best places to visit in Italy:
- Rome: Rome, or The Eternal City, is one of the most important cities for anyone to visit purely from a historical point of view. This is where modern civilization essentially stems from and all of the artwork, museums, architecture and history you'll get to experience here is second to none. Check out our city guide to Rome on Window Seat to find out more travel tips.
- Venice: Venice is one of the only cities in the world that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most beautiful cities you could see. Take to the city on foot and explore every nook and cranny, including the hundreds of bridges, gothic palaces, and medieval buildings.
- Tuscany: Tuscany is located close to both Rome and Venice and is one of the most beautiful towns in the country. It's best known for its beautiful landscapes with winding roads and rolling hills teeming with cypress trees. You'll also want to go there if you're a food lover or enjoy your wine.
- Amalfi Coast: The Amalfi Coast stretches between Sorrento and Salermo in the Campania region of Italy and offers a wealth of coastal town attractions including Amalfi, Positano, and Ravello, as well as places like Sorrento and Naples. As a hiking enthusiast, you'll want to head out to the Path of the Gods coastal hike and enjoy the panoramic views.
- Milan: Milan isn't high on many travellers’ lists because it's a major city and comes with a few prejudices. But, Milan is an incredible city with a wealth of diversity combining modern-day life with a rich history. Some of the best places to see in Milan are Duomo and Duomo Terraces, "The Last Supper" by Leonardo Da Vinci, and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
