I travelled from Hamburg to Kiel on the Regionalexpress and have to say that I really enjoyed the journey. I felt at home because the train was clean and well maintained. The seats were comfortable and ergonomic. The service staff didn't really make an appearance. I particularly liked the fact that the train left on time and arrived in Kiel without any delays. I can recommend this connection.
