Reason for travelling: I travelled from Munich to Vienna to celebrate New Year's Eve. The trip was part of an outward and return journey with friends. Connection and decision: I deliberately decided in favour of the train, although there was also a direct flight. The train connection was cheaper and more relaxed, especially when travelling with several people. I also wanted to avoid flying and prefer travelling in an environmentally friendly way. Positive and negative aspects: The best thing was that I was already able to spend time with my friends during the outward journey - we sat together, had good conversations and were able to travel in a relaxed manner. I didn't really notice any negative aspects. The whole journey went without incident. Travelling time: I travelled in the morning, which was very pleasant - the train wasn't crowded, the atmosphere was calm. Comfort: The journey was comfortable overall. The seats were comfortable, there was enough space for luggage and I was able to make good use of the time to chat or simply relax. Cleanliness: The train was clean and the toilets were also in decent condition - this is of course particularly important on longer journeys. Wifi & facilities: I used the wifi on board - it was basically available, but the connection was sometimes unstable. I didn't try out the on-board entertainment or charging functions. Punctuality: The train was on time - both at the start in Munich and on arrival in Vienna. This made the whole planning process much easier. Service: The service was unobtrusive but positive - there was nothing to complain about. The train staff were friendly and available if you had any questions. Catering: There was an on-board restaurant, but I didn't use it on this journey, so I can't say anything about it. Value for money: I paid for the ticket via PayPal. Compared to the flight, the train journey was the better choice in terms of price - especially when you consider that you are sharing the experience with friends. I think the price-performance ratio was very good.
Advantages
IconGood value
IconNice staff
IconSimple ticket booking
Disadvantages
IconHygiene
IconComfort
IconInternet
When I was travelling from Munich to Budapest, I stopped in Vienna and I was very satisfied with the journey. First of all, because the ticket booking was really easy and during the journey the staff was very friendly. Only unfortunately the internet was really very bad and that made the comfort worse. The hygiene of the seats and toilets could also be improved. Overall, however, I am satisfied with the price.
Advantages
IconFast drive
IconGood alternative to the aeroplane
Disadvantages
IconNothing to report
So far I have only had good experiences with ÖBB trains and connections, and this journey was no exception. The seats in 1st class are comfortable, the wifi works smoothly and the connection was punctual. The journey is identical in time to flying, as I have flown this route several times before. With check-in and waiting, the journey is no quicker. So this is one of the train routes that is fun, as there are not often delays.
Advantages
IconThe journey was very pleasant
IconGood staff
Disadvantages
IconActually nothing was all good
The train journey was very pleasant and smooth. The staff were very friendly and you could always ask them if you had any questions. The toilets were very clean and were also cleaned regularly. The atmosphere was also quiet and pleasant. There were also sockets for charging mobile phones and the like. Very nice, we would do it again. I was there with my friend Hanno.

ÖBB | Regionalzug

About
ÖBB Regionalzug (R) is a train category of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) that replaced the Personenzug in Austria in 1982. Regionalzug services primarily operate in various Austrian states like Styria, Upper Austria, Lower Austria, and Vorarlberg, and on specific sections of other lines. These trains serve slightly longer connections that are too far from urban centers for S-Bahn operations. In Vienna, regional trains from the surrounding areas are integrated into the inner-city transport network. ÖBB Regionalzug services exclusively offer second class. The fleet includes modern trains such as the ÖBB Cityjet, Talent, and Desiro, as well as bi-level push-pull trains and Cityshuttle push-pull trains.
