Flying between Spain's two largest cities is always an option. There are 20-25 direct flights at weekends and as many as 30-40 on weekdays, with a journey time of little over an hour in the majority of cases.
Iberia is the main operator on the Madrid to Barcelona route, running daily flights. Flights are also provided by Air Europa and Vueling, so budget fares could be available.
Flying from Madrid to Barcelona is fast and direct. There's no need to stop along the way. Direct flights will take between one hour 15 minutes and one hour 20 minutes before touching down in the Catalan capital.
The Madrid to Barcelona route is extremely well served, with a large choice of departure times. During the week, passengers can select from 30-40 direct flights. At weekends, flight frequencies dip a little, but there will still be 20-25 flights to choose from.
Flights from Madrid leave from Barajas Airport, which can be reached from the city centre in 12 minutes via Metro Line 8. Passengers will then arrive at Barcelona El Prat Airport. From there, Renfe overground trains leave every 30 minutes, running to Barcelona Sants station.
