Located in the southwestern portion of the United Kingdom, Taunton is a small town closest to Bristol. The only train station in town is the Taunton Train Station which is serviced by the First Great Western and Virgin Trains. The bus station is located on Castle Street in the southern part of town. The city is served by several different bus companies including, Berry's Coaches, Taunton Minibuses, Knight Bros Bus, Hatch Green Coaches, The Buses of Somerset and Firstbus. To get to the city centre from other locations in the United Kingdom, you can leave from Wellington, Bridgwater, Exeter, Chard and Yeovil.
One of the greatest attractions in Taunton is the Somerset County Museum which is located in a 12th century hall of Taunton Castle. The Museum is home to a diverse collection of toys, dolls, sculptures, natural history, archeological items, pottery and mosaics. Also within its doors is the Somerset Military Museum which allows visitors to follow the story of the Somerset Light Infantry. Taunton Castle itself opened in 1129 and features Norman, Georgian and Edwardian architectural styles. Furthermore, the nearby Church of Saint Mary Magdalene is a traditional English Gothic architectural masterpiece from 1508 that continues to be in operation today. Another major attraction in the city is the Brewhouse Theatre which is the largest theatre and art centre in Taunton. The building can accommodate 350 seated guests and also supports exhibition and studio space. Finally, the Somerset Cricket Museum is a wonderful location to learn more about the history of cricket with a strong emphasis on the Somerset County Cricket Club which has a competition field directly next to the museum.
