The journey from Edinburgh to Manchester was fine in itself, but unfortunately the toilet was closed. On the other hand, there was plenty of storage space, a wonderful view and no delays. The journey took around 3 hours and I travelled on the TPE 5278. The price-performance ratio was not so good. You didn't have to change trains and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Disadvantages

IconVery loud
IconReservations not taken seriously
The direct train journey from Edinburgh to Manchester on 10 October 2024 with train number 1F24 at 14:30 was a disappointment. Although the ticket was cheap, the train was over an hour late. It was also extremely noisy on the train, making a relaxing journey out of the question. My seat reservation was not taken seriously at all, other passengers were already sitting in my seat and the staff did not respond. Overall, the journey was very stressful.
Advantages
IconDirect connection from Edinburgh to Manchester without changing trains
IconSeat reservation possible
IconPleasant journey with beautiful landscapes
Disadvantages
IconTrains may be cancelled, in which case it will take longer
We travelled from Edinburgh Waverley to Manchester Piccadilly on Saturday 14 October 2023 at 18:11 on TransPennine Express G67728. The scheduled arrival was at 21:26, however the train from Preston was cancelled and we had to take another. The journey was pleasant, the seat reservation worked well. There were staff at Edinburgh Waverley station who helped us find the right train. The ticket had to be scanned on boarding. There was space for luggage and the train was not too full. USB ports available for charging. Price-performance ratio was good. Booking with split tickets via a third-party provider is advantageous in terms of price, but can be used without changing trains. All in all, a very good way to travel if you book early enough in advance.
