East Midlands Routes

The company operates two types of services; long distance services to and from London St. Pancras and regional services. The regional services link towns and cities in the East Midlands, as well as Central and Northern England – connecting London with cities such as Sheffield, York, Derby, Corby, Nottingham and Leeds.

East Midlands Railway offers plenty of journeys across the country, including larger cities such as London, Liverpool and Manchester. In addition to this, East Midlands Railway also offer journeys to smaller cities within the UK - including Lincoln and Norwich.

About East Midlands Railway

The East Midlands Railway franchise was founded in November 2007 as the result of a merger between the former Midland Mainline and eastern parts of the Central Trains franchises. It recently rebranded to East Midlands Railway from East Midlands Trains in 2019, as part of the takeover of the Midland Main Line franchise by Abellio.

FAQ - Tickets, Service and Information

What services are there for disabled passengers with East Midlands Railway?

East Midlands Railway will help passengers board and disembark the train. At larger stations passengers can ask a member of staff, at smaller stations passengers may have to call ahead. Folding wheelchairs can be stored in the luggage compartments or there are designated spaces for wheelchair users.

Where can I buy East Midlands Railway train tickets?

At the train station just before you travel. By buying directly with the provider. By buying online using Omio.

What are the different types of East Midlands Railway tickets?

There are 4 main types of fares available: Advance, Super Off-Peak, Off-Peak and Anytime tickets. There is a full range of business tickets available to passengers, from cheap train tickets up to season tickets with breakfast and parking included. Season tickets can be bought for weekly use, on a monthly or on an annual basis. Frequent travellers who wouldn't neccesarily benefit from a season pass have the option to purchase Carnet tickets (sold as booklets of five or ten Anytime tickets) to get a discount on business tickets.

How can I get the cheaper tickets?

If you can be flexible on when you travel then the chances of finding a cheap train ticket will be higher. Avoid busy travel times and days, and naturally expect to pay more to travel to London. Travel midweek during off-peak times to find a cheaper ticket.

How can I book a seat reservation?

Book online alongside your train ticket. Some train tickets require a seat reservation so make sure to do this upon booking. Check your ticket details carefully, as often you need to present your seat reservation and train ticket upon inspection for them each to be valid. With the Omio Rail Planner App you won't have to worry about losing your ticket as it is on mobile.
