Which train companies travel from Zaragoza to Madrid?
Trains from the capital to Zaragoza are operated by the Spanish state rail company Renfe, with one service a day shared with the Ouigo, a subsidiary of the French TGV network, and iryo. Passengers can choose between direct AVE trains, AVLO trains which are the high-speed low cost service, and slightly slower Media Distancia connections. There are also two daily Regional train services to Madrid.
Travel first class from Zaragoza to Madrid
When travelling with Renfe you’ll have the option to choose between three different ticket types. Each ticket type is priced according to the flexibility of the ticket, the level of comfort and service you’ll receive onboard.
- Básico (Basic) ticket: these are the cheapest tickets on the standard coaches. Passengers will receive all benefits of travelling on standard including plenty of legroom, WIFI, luggage storage and power sockets. Básico tickets cannot be exchanged or cancelled for a refund. - Elige (the Pick and mix) ticket: these tickets can be tailored to your needs. Elige ticket holders have more flexibility with exchanging or cancelling their tickets or even changing the ticket holder. The Elige ticket also gives the option to travel on Elige ESTÁNDAR (with standard seats) or Elige CONFORT (with XL comfort seats). Add-ons include seat selection, travelling with pets, or a box of food delivered to your seat for an extra €7.50
- Prémium (Premium) ticket: these tickets offer full first class comfort and flexibility. The perks of travelling with this ticket includes XL comfort seats, unlimited free changes to your ticket, a full refund if you cancel your ticket 7 days in advance, and if you miss your train simply hop on the next one for free. The Prémium includes all add-ons including seat selection, taking pets, food service to your seat.
Take the fastest train from Zaragoza to Madrid
There are frequent daily and direct trains from Zaragoza to Madrid, with several high-speed train providers making the 170 miles (274 km) journey. High-speed AVE connections link Zaragoza to Madrid, making the fastest journey in just 1 and 15 minutes at speeds of up to 192 m/h (310 km/h). Renfe’s AVLO trains as well as Ouigo (run by the French company SNCF), and iryo (which is part-owned by Trenitalia) all run high-speed trains between these two cities. Media Distancia express services take between 1 and 45 minutes to two hours. Regional services stop more frequently and can take more than four hours to reach Madrid from Zaragoza.
Daily train schedules: Zaragoza to Madrid
The route between Zaragoza and Madrid is well catered. The weekday and Saturday timetables offer around 22 trains daily, with departures every half hour in the morning and at least every hour throughout the day. The earliest train leaves Zaragoza around 7:55 a.m. and the final departure is around 10:45 p.m. On Sundays, there are fewer departures and a slightly later first train. Taking the Train from Zaragoza
Every train from Zaragoza to Madrid departs from Zaragoza Delicias and arrives at Madrid Atocha.
