Daily Departures of AVLO Trains
There is usually an average of 14 trains journeying between Madrid and Barcelona daily. The first AVLO train departs at 7:00 a.m. and the last at 9:00 p.m., with the other train schedules offering intervals of an hour and others even having a two-hour difference. You can visit the Omio website or mobile app to view the different AVLO train times together with their estimated arrival times.
AVLO train ticket types
The Basic Ticket is the only ticket category. The AVLO ticket price starts at €7. However, children aged 14 and under can travel with an adult who holds a Basic Fare ticket for a fixed price of €5. You can only pay to travel with up to two child tickets per AVLO Basic Fare ticket.
When you purchase your train AVLO tickets as a regular large Spanish family, make sure that you mention this to the cashier when making your purchase to receive a 20% discount. However, if you are a Special Category Spanish Large Family, you will receive 50%. This discount is available for the families that require special attention, such as reduced mobility.
Most Popular Journeys with AVLO
Currently, the AVLO train only has one AVLO route, one of the busiest in Spain. This route starts from Figueres and goes to Girona before reaching Barcelona. It then stops in Lleida, Tarragona, Calatayud, and Zaragoza and Guadalajara before ending in Madrid.
Madrid-Barcelona with AVLO
People commonly think that travelling to Barcelona from Madrid by train would be a long trip. However, this is not the case.
- The journey via the AVLO train can be as short as 2hr 30min if you take the train directly from the city.
- If you take the intermediate stop, the trip can take around 2hr 45min. The longest duration would be the 3h 30min journey via the train making all stops.
- The features you will see in this route include: the Port Aventura Caribe Aquatic Park, the Castle Calatravo, and the Roca Dels Moros.
Barcelona-Zaragoza with AVLO
19 trains leave Barcelona for Zaragoza daily, and they all travel direct.
- The average distance between these two cities is around 140 miles (225 km), and it will take 2hr to complete the journey.
- The slowest train will typically take around 5 hours, usually involving a change or two. Additionally, it is the cheapest train for those on a budget.
- Among the features you will see along the way include: The Llobregat Delta, The Parc de Torreblanca and Vallparadis, and The Museu de la Ciencia I de la Tecnica de Catalunya.
Valencia-Madrid with AVLO
The 15 trains that leave Valencia for Madrid every day all travel directly.
- The average distance between these two cities is around 188 miles (302 km.) However, depending on the time of day, some trains can get you there in around 1hr 38min; the slowest one is 9hr 28min.
- Some of the features on the journey between Valencia and Madrid include: The Castell de Xative, Cuevas De La Villa nature park and The Castillo de Alcala del jucar.

With AVLO trains, you can travel with all the comforts of a modern train. They are 400-seater trains equipped with reclining seats, reading lights, and plugs, travelling at a speed of 300 km/h. Alta Velocidad (AVLO) trains are now available for those traveling between Madrid, Barcelona, and Zaragoza, our Alta Velocidad (AVLO).

- These trains are fully adapted to accommodate people with reduced mobility. This includes toilets adapted for people with mobility limitations, H spaces for those in wheelchairs, and all of their carriages are at platform level. If you have reduced mobility, you can request assistance from the train's staff members at the time of purchase or through the app for Android and Apple devices.
- The train has vending machines serving hot and cold drinks and snacks.
- No pets are allowed on AVLO trains, only assistance dogs.
- Bicycles and scooters must be folded away, in their carrying case.
Night trains with AVLO
Two night trains travel between the destinations every day. On the AVLO train schedule, the first train departs at 7:21 p.m., the second one departs at 9:00 p.m. Both night trains take around 2h 50min.

Travelling by train produces minimal gaseous emissions, and there are electrically powered trains that produce no emissions at all.
