All trains are operated by ÖBB, with its various trains including the high-speed RailJet. Two of the journeys each day are direct and take about 4 hours 20 minutes to complete. The other three journeys involve one change, and take between 4.5 and 8 hours to complete, depending on the wait times at the respective transfer stations.
ÖBB is the only rail operator offering the trip from Salzburg to Ljubljana. The ÖBB Nightjet leaves Salzburg for Ljubljana in the early hours each morning. After this overnight service, four trains depart from not long after 06.00a.m. through to the mid-afternoon. The trains leave at approximately 4-hourly intervals. Two are Eurocity trains, 1 intercity, and 1 the RailJet. There is only one Eurocity direct train during the day, and the NightJet travelling overnight. All other journeys require 1 change.
