Bus Stations in Germany

Up until 2012 a law had been in place restricting many long-distance bus services in Germany to only serving destinations to and from Berlin. Its original purpose was to protect the rail industry, and once the law was revoked, numerous bus companies sprung up in a short period of time, offering previously unavailable journeys, vying to secure their space in the market. As a result, long-distance bus journeys in Germany are frequent and often very competitively priced. Major bus stations within the country include the two in Berlin (Central Bus Station/ZOB and Ostbahnhof Bus Station), Hamburg Central Bus Station (ZOB Hamburg), Munich Central Bus Station (ZOB Munich), Haputbahnhof Cologne, and Frankfurt Am Main

Berlin Central Bus Station (ZOB)

The vast majority of long-distance buses to Berlin terminate at the ZOB. It is located in western Berlin opposite the International Congress Centre (ICC) on the Ring S-Bahn line that circles the city. MeinFernbus and ADAC Post Bus are some of the major providers serving this station. National and international journeys are available.

Hamburg Central Bus Station (ZOB Hamburg)

This architecturally award-winning station can be found in the St Georg district of Hamburg, located close to Hamburg Hauptbahnhof. Flixbus, MeinFernbus, ADAC PostBus and Berlin Linien Bus offer national and international journeys from this station.

Munich Central Bus Station

Opened in 2009, Munich's Central Bus Station offers services from FlixBus and MeinFernbus among others. The station offers a range of facilities, including numerous shops open 7 days a week, cafes, currency exchange and information desks. The station is located a short distance from an S-Bahn station.

Hauptbahnhof Cologne

In terms of bus services this station is primarily for local routes, but all Eurolines services to the city also stop here. The station also caters to rail and U-Bahn services. Various retail outlets are available on site.
