About Nuremberg
Nuremberg is the second largest city in the German state of Bavaria and lies on the stunning Pegnitz River and the impressive Main-Danube Canal which connects the North Sea to the Black Sea. In Roman times, Nuremberg was considered to be the 'unofficial capital' of the Empire. The city has been the preferred residence of German kings throughout the ages and there are several castles, mansions and palaces within the city. Completely destroyed by Allied bombers in WWII,the city has since been carefully reconstructed to its former glory using the original stone. Explore the atmospheric plazas and squares in the Altstadt where you'll find daily markets. Here you will find the ornate Frauenkirche, the oldest Gothic church in Bavaria which was built in the 14th century. Art and culture abound in this historical city - the Germanisches National Museum is not to be missed, nor is the Nuremberg Trials Courtroom and exhibition.
