There is are very regular trains from Manchester to Aberdeen - departures are every 10 - 20 minutes during peak times and run from about 5.00am until about 6.45pm. There are no direct journeys; all services involve at least one change, at Edinburgh Waverly station. Trains depart from Manchester Piccadilly and arrive at Aberdeen station, with an average journey time of around 6 hours. There is also an overnight sleeper train between the two destinations - it leaves at about 6.45pm, arriving in Scotland the next day at about 7.15am following changes at Preston, Edinburgh Haymarket and Dundee.

Taking the Train from Manchester

All train services from Manchester to Aberdeen leave from Manchester Piccadilly station, which is located in the heart of Manchester City centre. It's easy to reach from other destinations in the city on foot or by the Metrolink Tram service, which has a terminus at the station. Several local bus lines also pass through Manchester city centre, terminating at Manchester Piccadilly, and the station is well served by taxis, which can be booked in advance or flagged down locally.

Getting into City B by Train

Aberdeen is often referred to as the 'Granite City', owing to its prevelant, eye-catching granite architecture. The city, the third largest in Scotland is also known for its parks and gardens, and the long, sandy beach. Aberdeen Railway station is on Guild Street, located in the city centre. It's within walking distance of Aberdeen's central bus station, and the two are connected via an indoor concourse. There are short stay car parking spaces available at the station, and taxis can be booked from a stand inside. For longer stay car parking, drivers can use the near by College Street car park.
