How to Get to Colchester by Train

Colchester is located in Essex, England and has two train stations - Colchester Town and Colchester North. Trains run between the two if needed. With regular trains from London arriving approximately every 20 minutes, getting into the city from London is easy. The stations are served by Greater Anglia Trains and run on the Great Eastern Main Line. Colchester Town train station also has a bus station less than a five minute walk away for onward travel. Both train stations have taxis available to bring you into the centre of town. From Colchester North a coach runs to the airport.

Colchester is an old English city with close links to its Roman history. Colchester Castle is built on a site popular with the Emperor Claudius and dates back to the eleventh century. The city itself was once famed for clock making and there is a clock museum dedicated to this antique art. Colchester also offers its seafood platter restaurants - mussels, oysters, and shellfish collected by families who have dedicated many generations to harvesting the produce from the local waters. Cafes here offer both European and British cuisine. For an easy sightseeing journey around the city, open top buses are available.
