Colchester is an old English city with close links to its Roman history. Colchester Castle is built on a site popular with the Emperor Claudius and dates back to the eleventh century. The city itself was once famed for clock making and there is a clock museum dedicated to this antique art. Colchester also offers its seafood platter restaurants - mussels, oysters, and shellfish collected by families who have dedicated many generations to harvesting the produce from the local waters. Cafes here offer both European and British cuisine. For an easy sightseeing journey around the city, open top buses are available.
