I appreciate that the departure was on time. The seats offered a certain level of comfort and the train temperature was also pleasant. I found it particularly positive that there was enough space for luggage. One disadvantage, however, was that the windows were very dirty, which spoilt the view somewhat. Nevertheless, there was a calm atmosphere, which allowed me to relax. I would use this connection again if the opportunity arose.

IconThe wifi
I found it a bit of a shame that the wifi wasn't always stable en route, especially in rural areas. Apart from that, the train journey was very pleasant: the seat was comfortable, it was quiet in the compartment and I was able to read well. I particularly liked the fact that the train left on time and that the route ran through beautiful countryside. The power sockets at the seat were also useful. All in all, it was a relaxing journey that I would like to experience again.
Advantages
IconVery good comfort on the train
IconFast wifi with free access
IconFriendly and helpful staff
Disadvantages
IconAt departure, the train was slightly delayed
The journey from Barcelona to Girona was a very pleasant journey overall. The staff were very helpful and cooperative. The facilities were very modern and wifi was free. The seats were very comfortable and clean. The service was very good and above all friendly. There were enough bins around toilets which were cleaned very well. However, the train was slightly late at departure. However, there was no need to change trains. In terms of price-performance ratio, this trip was a bargain. The view from the windows was very nice. All in all, I recommend the trip and would do it again at any time.
Advantages
Iconrapid travel
Iconcheap ride
This was a ride where I liked everything. The absolute hammer was the price, which was €9.30. In addition, everything was just right: good wifi, access to electricity at the seat, lots of space, comfortable seats, clean train, air conditioning, punctuality of the train, clean toilets, attention to hygiene, great, fast, cheap service and delicious food respectively, friendly staff, value for money, no technical problems. I think it is safe to say that I can recommend the trip 100% and can only rate it with 5 out of 5 stars. World class ride!
Advantages
IconPrice-performance ratio
It was a great ride from Barcelona to Girona. There was nothing I didn't like. What I liked most was the price, it was very very cheap and by the way even the ride was "perfect". The staff were very nice, sympathetic and entertaining. The train arrived five minutes on time and waited until all passengers had boarded. I also liked that the toilets were clean. I can definitely recommend the trip as my seat was very comfortable and my wifi was very good. I also had a power socket at my seat
Advantages
IconVery cheap ride
IconVery fast ride
At the beginning, I would like to mention that I can definitely recommend the trip, because my ticket was very cheap. It was the cheapest ticket of my life, and it only cost €9.30, which is unbelievable. It was also a very fast journey, with great wifi and a power socket at my seat. What was also very good was that my train was on time. The service was also good and I really enjoyed the food, there were no negative things at all, everything I experienced was positive. Great journey and a very fast journey.
Advantages
Iconvery favourable
That was the cheapest ride of mine, no kidding. That's incredible €9 for a ride, that's awesome and by the way, there were no negative things at all. My train was on time and the services were super fast, fresh etc.. What I liked most was the hygiene. I can only recommend the trip.
Advantages
Iconrapid travel
I was in Spain in 2016 and took 2 trains and both were awesome. It was a very fast train ride. I travelled in the morning and had a great view out of the window. I travelled in April at the time and there was air conditioning which worked without a problem. I had access to wifi and to electricity. The staff were very nice and entertaining. The quality of my food/drink was great and the prices were relatively reasonable. I can recommend the ride to others as the staff were very nice.
Advantages
IconVery fast ride
IconVery cheap ticket
It was one of the best, if not the best, train rides of my life. I went in the morning and the journey was very very short, only 40 minutes. The staff were very nice and the toilets were very clean. I had no problems at all with the wifi and the train was on time. I can only recommend it and why this was the best train ride of my life I will mention now. It's hard to believe, but my ticket only cost 9€. It was by far the best, fastest and cheapest ride of my life. It was just perfect!
Advantages
Iconrapid travel
Now I want to tell you about the great journey that began in Spain, from Barcelona to Girona. My seat was relatively in the front and I sat in the 3rd seat. The journey was super fast and took about 40 minutes. My train was on time and the staff were very friendly and humorous. Even back then, when Corona didn't exist yet, they paid a lot of attention to hygiene (disinfectants etc.) My ticket was very cheap and inexpensive. I had great wifi and felt comfortable using the toilets. This trip is highly recommended.
Advantages
Iconpleasant volume
That was in 2016, when I also did my Málaga Seville ride. Travelling in Spain was amazing. I had access to wifi on the train and my seat was comfortable. It was very quiet on the train and I had multiple access to electricity at my seat. The staff were humorous and very friendly. I had many ordering options. The train was on time and CH did not have to change trains. I can definitely recommend it as it was great.
Advantages
IconGood service
Disadvantages
IconToo loud
I had wifi on the train. I had my own socket, the seats were also very comfortable, but it was too noisy on the train as there were babies crying all the time. Apart from that, everything was perfect, the staff were very friendly and you have a lot of ordering options and a lot was announced. It was very clean on the train, a lot of attention was paid to hygiene, the toilets were also very clean. There was no need to change trains and the train was very punctual and for such a price it is definitely worth it. Great value for money. Great trip.
Advantages
IconBeautiful view
IconGood service
Disadvantages
IconPricewise okay
I travelled to Girona on the so-called Renfe MD 15901. The journey was really nice and I really enjoyed it. The service was nice to me and polite. I was able to pass the 1.5 hour journey with the train wifi. The hygiene of the train was impeccable and apart from the price, I have nothing to complain about. We were slightly late, but nothing that affected my mood.
Advantages
IconClean toilets
Disadvantages
IconDelayed
I am very positive about the fact that the toilets were mostly very clean. It was also very nice that the staff were always happy to help with any questions. One disadvantage was that the train was very late. The price-performance ratio was very good. The atmosphere on the train was very relaxed, which definitely contributed to the comfort. To summarise, I give it four stars and my recommendation.
Advantages
IconHygiene
Disadvantages
IconNone at all
The journey was flawless. The train was very punctual. The staff were always available to answer questions. In addition, the sanitary facilities were kept very clean and hygienic. One point that many people often ignore is the price of the ticket. This was in an absolutely acceptable range. To cut a long story short. The journey was exactly as expected and there were no complications or problems.
Advantages
IconBeautiful train route
IconAir-conditioned train
IconVery cheap
Disadvantages
IconTrain overcrowded
IconNo wifi on the train
IconScoreboard not particularly easy to read
I travelled with my Interrail ticket from Barcelona to Giro na to visit the city. Departure: 9:10. Arrival: 9:49. Train number: AVE10709. Unfortunately, the train was very crowded and I didn't have a seat. The train also had no wifi and you couldn't read the display board properly. But the train was nice and cool and you had a nice view.
Advantages
IconPersonnel
Disadvantages
IconCleanliness
Unfortunately, it wasn't really clean or hygienic. When I pointed this out to the staff, they responded very politely and talked to me objectively. Another positive aspect is that I wasn't delayed because the train was on time. I advise everyone to buy the ticket on the website to avoid complications just before the journey. I recommend the train journey.
Advantages
IconStrong price-performance ratio
IconFast drive
Disadvantages
IconCompletely overcrowded
As I travelled at 18:55, the train was correspondingly full. The comfort was no longer as excellent. However, the price-performance ratio was excellent, the journey was fast and the train was clean. There was free wifi on the AVE 9742, but no power sockets. The journey from Barcelona to Girona took just under 40 minutes. It was possible to make a reservation, but I hadn't done so, which turned out to be a mistake.
Advantages
IconVery favourable for the journey
Disadvantages
IconWC locked
The first thing I want to mention is the price of the journey, which is very good. The comfort was rather mediocre, there was neither wifi nor power sockets, but the seats were very comfortable and there were tables where you could spread out your food. The journey on the AVE 3093 took less than an hour and I didn't have to change trains during the journey. Everything was neat and hygienic and the service was friendly and nice as always.
Advantages
IconFaster than travelling by car
Disadvantages
IconStuffy air
I started the journey on 26 February. The journey started at 17:46, the train number was 15081 and the journey took a little less than 2 hours. The staff provided good service, food and comfortable seats. Other features of the train were wifi, power sockets and tables, which made it possible to work on the train. The toilets were really extremely clean and the rest of the train was equally clean and hygienic.
Advantages
IconMore comfortable than a car
Disadvantages
IconLoud guests
The train with the number 15095 from Barcelona to Girona departed on 4 November at 10:16, the journey was very short and took less than an hour. The staff on the train were nice and helpful, they helped me with my luggage. The train was extremely clean, but unfortunately the toilets were locked. The price-performance ratio is very good and very worthwhile compared to other providers.
Advantages
IconSuper easy booking
Disadvantages
IconDelay
Despite the short delay of the train, I really enjoyed the journey from Barcelona to Girona because I was able to book my ticket very easily online. The ticket was also very reasonably priced. I also really liked the fact that I didn't have to change trains on the journey and was able to reach my destination very quickly. I was very impressed by the good wifi, as well as the clean toilets.

Route Overview

The Barcelona to Girona train is a quick and easy way to travel between these two contrasting Spanish cities. It takes as little as 39 minutes by train using high-speed services, and frequent departures make it easy to find a service that fits in with my travel plans. If you're not sure of the best way to get from Barcelona to Girona, I'd recommend the train over the bus. Trains are fast and comfortable, and you don't run the risk of getting stuck in Barcelona's heavy traffic. At 1 hour and 50 minutes, buses to Girona are much slower, not to mention more expensive.

Transportation Experience

Booking my journey from Barcelona to Girona by train was simple with Omio. I just loaded up the Omio app, chose a train, paid online, and downloaded my ticket—no need to print anything. Several different train operators run high-speed services on the route, including AVE, Avant, and Avlo, and Omio's recommendations helped me choose the best time and price. You could also take a slower local service if you're on a budget or want to stop off somewhere, like Figueres, where you can visit Salvador Dali's Theatre Museum.

Route Details

Departure & Arrival Stations

Trains from Barcelona to Girona depart from Barcelona Sants, the city's largest train station. This modern transport hub has cafés, shops, and facilities like left luggage and toilets. I stayed in a hotel within walking distance, but you can also easily get there using Barcelona's metro.

High-speed trains to Girona depart from platforms 1-6. To get to the platforms, I had to go through security screening first, which took an extra five minutes. Then Girona's train station is just a kilometer from the historic city center.

Schedule & Frequency

Trains from Barcelona to Girona run from early morning to late evening, with around 20 departures a day. My 10:54 AM departure with Renfe's AVE train arrived right on time, whisking me 87 kilometers to Girona in just 40 minutes.

Parc Güell in Barcelona.

Onboard Experience & Services

AVE trains have two classes: Estándard (Standard Class) and Confort (First Class—with larger seats, food and drinks, and lounge access). I booked an Estándard ticket for €14, which came with comfy seats, power sockets, and free Wi-Fi—perfect for catching up on emails.

As it was just a short journey, I didn't try out the onboard catering, but there's a buffet carriage on the train that sells drinks and snacks. The route runs through the suburbs of Barcelona, then picks up speed with a string of small towns flashing by at speeds of up to 310 km/h.

Ticketing Advice & Budget

I booked my Barcelona to Girona train tickets in advance and paid just €14 for a seat in standard class. Here’s a budget breakdown of my total spend for this journey:

Item Cost (€)
AVE Standard Class train ticket €14
Coffee at Barcelona Sants Station €5
Total €19

Top Tips & Personal Recommendations

  • Arrive 20 minutes early at Barcelona Sants in case there are queues for security screening.
  • If you need to store your bags, there are left luggage facilities in both Barcelona Sants (in the underground car park) and Girona (in a building next to the station).
  • Walk into Girona from the station along the riverside for scenic views.

Traveling from Barcelona to Girona by train was a breeze—fast, comfortable, and with plenty of departures to choose from. Whether you're visiting Girona for a day trip or spending a longer holiday there, book your ticket on Omio for a stress-free journey.
