How to Travel from Gibraltar to Malaga
Travelling from Gibraltar to Malaga takes between three and five hours, depending on mode of transport and connections. To travel out of Gibraltar you must take a shuttle bus to the train or bus station in Spain, you can simply walk over the border as long as you have your passport with you. Gibraltar is best known for its Rock which draws tourists to try a cable car ride for the best views and to meet the famous Barbary Macaque monkeys who live there. Malaga is a top summer sun destination in Spain which also offers fascinating cultural sights, including the wonderfully preserved 11th century Moorish fortress palace Alcazaba.
Train: Trains leave for Malaga around seven times per day. The journey takes between four and five hours depending on waiting times between trains. The main train provider is Renfe, which does not run a direct service between the two cities. Most train routes require two changes. Trains depart from both San Roque-La Linea and Algeciras stations which can be reached by bus from the border between Gibraltar and Spain. All trains arrive at Malaga María Zambrano station.
Bus: There are around four bus departures per day which are run by Avanza. The journey takes approximately three hours. Buses travel from La Linea de la Concepción - Estación de Autobuses on the Spanish side of the border with Gibraltar to Estación de Autobuses in Malaga.
