All in all, a good train journey. Although there was a slight delay of about ten minutes, everything else was fine. The seat was comfortable, the compartment clean and pleasantly quiet. Wifi was available, although not particularly fast. The power socket worked. The staff were friendly but a little short-staffed. I would use the connection again, as the border crossing also worked without any problems. I can recommend it!

My train journey from Berlin to Paris involved two changes, first in Hanover and then in Karlsruhe. The first section from Berlin to Hanover was relaxed. The seats were comfortable, the compartments clean and the quiet atmosphere made for a pleasant start. The changeover in Hanover went smoothly. The onward journey to Karlsruhe also went smoothly. The train staff were helpful and the wifi worked without interruption, so I was able to use the journey productively. Once I arrived in Karlsruhe, I changed trains for the second time before travelling on to Paris. Here too, the cleanliness and comfort of the train were impressive, and the wide range of seats made the long journey through France very pleasant. All connections were well coordinated, so that the journey remained relaxed overall. The entire route was characterised by reliability and comfort. Despite the two changes, the connection seemed well thought out and ensured a relaxed arrival in Paris. Everything ran on time

The train journey from Berlin to Paris was a wonderful experience for me. As soon as I boarded, I had the feeling that everything was well organised. The carriages were clean, the seats were comfortable and I had enough space to stretch out and sit comfortably. The air conditioning in the train was suitable. The changing scenery en route made the journey particularly entertaining. I also noticed that the announcements were clear and helpful. Overall, everything went very smoothly, from departure to arrival. It was a journey I would do again.

My train journey from Berlin to Paris in second class left a very good impression. The connection was pleasant despite the changes, as the transfers went smoothly and I didn't feel rushed at all. The journey on the ICE was comfortable, the seats offered sufficient comfort even over the longer distance and the carriages made a well-kept impression. There was a pleasant atmosphere on the train. The wifi was good and I had power sockets at my seat. All in all, it was a pleasant journey to Paris.

IconComfort (better than expected)
My second-class train journey from Berlin to Paris was a really pleasant experience, although I was a little sceptical at first about the level of comfort on such a long journey. The train was full, but I still had enough room to sit down and my suitcase was easy to stow away. The seats were still comfortable even after several hours and it was clean - that really makes a difference on a long journey. The staff were friendly, quick to answer questions and regularly went through the car. Even though the journey time is of course not comparable to that of a plane, I found travelling by train more relaxed because I didn't have to worry about security checks. I was able to listen to music, read a book and look out of the window during the journey. The wifi also worked better than expected, so I was even able to get some work done. The mixture of a pleasant atmosphere, uncomplicated journey and beautiful views made the hours pass more quickly than expected. I would definitely choose the second-class train journey again for a journey like this.

Disadvantages
IconA little expensive
This was my outward journey in first class and it was incredibly good. There is only one thing I can criticise a little bit and that is the price, but I firmly believe it was worth it as the journey was just perfect. When I boarded, the staff escorted me to first class and then I sat down and I had my own non-visible cabin and the seats were very comfortable, plus they were reclining seats. There was also air conditioning and the wifi was great. The food was incredibly tasty, especially the coffee. Despite the price, I can only recommend this trip.

This ride was incredibly comfortable, but there are four stars because it was a bit expensive, but otherwise I liked everything super and I absolutely like to give the ride. The wifi was consistently great despite many users and I had no problem. I was very well equipped at the seat as my seat was very comfortable, was a reclining seat, had a massage function, had power sockets at the table and had options to call for staff by pressing a button. The food was super tasty and I felt great during the whole trip as the staff were very nice. I can only recommend this ride to others. The only negative thing was the price.
Advantages

IconCleanliness
The inside of the train smelled very fresh and clean, the floors and seats were clean, then I ordered something for myself and it came without a long wait and it was very fresh, the internet was very strong, the people were very comfortable and happy, I was very relaxed, it was a very perfect journey. I would also like to mention the delicious food, the power sockets at the seat and the punctuality. I am happy to pass on the trip as my ticket was quite cheap.

Too bad for me and my boyfriend for the anniversary we got two tickets from Berlin to Paris to spend a week in Paris. Buying the tickets against practically very fast and pleasant. That was certainly the only positive thing about the trip. Once on the train and during the journey, everything was negative. Wifi was not available. The sockets on both seats were not functional and neither was the catering. The staff was hardly approachable and the restaurant was not hygienic at all. The toilets were full of smeared turnings. There was toilet paper all over the floor and every corner smelled of urine. This trip was not recommended at all and we only heard good things about the ICE.
Advantages
IconThe observance of hygiene
Disadvantages
Iconexpensive
The trip was very expensive, but worth it because I liked everything. This was my outward journey in 1st class. I liked everything except the price, so I'm happy to pass on the trip. The wifi had full bars. The seats were very comfortable and I definitely felt very good. It was very quiet on the train. I had my own toilet and it was very clean. My train was on time. Despite the price, the journey was great.

Unfortunately, there is no night train from Berlin to Paris. However, the train journey to Paris was quite pleasant. I only had to change trains once. However, my train was late, which is why I missed my connecting train. The on-board staff were very friendly and the toilets were clean. Wifi worked and the sockets worked fantastically. The train was a bit dirty. And the seats were also comfortably spaced. I would do this journey again. Simply unbeatable for this price.

My journey from Berlin to Paris with Deutsche Bahn was excellent. Firstly, the service of the staff should be emphasised. The staff were very friendly, polite and respectful. They always had a big smile on their faces and dealt with all my concerns with the utmost interest. The train also arrived in Paris on time. This made my planning much easier. Good attention was paid to hygiene. The toilets and seats were well maintained, hygienic and clean. The seats were also very comfortable and cosy. This allowed me to rest and relax during the journey. However, the wifi connection was not particularly efficient or stable. The connection was constantly interrupted and I was unable to make calls or work on my laptop. Disappointingly, the volume was not optimal and the reservation options were complicated and relatively confusing. But overall it was a great and recommendable trip!

Important Travel Information: EU Entry/Exit System (EES)

With the introduction of the Entry/Exit System (EES) by the European Union, it is now required for non-EU nationals to register each time they enter or leave the Schengen Area. This new system is especially relevant for UK travelers on services like Eurostar. While a valid passport has always been required for border crossings, the EES adds a new step to the process. To ensure a smooth journey, please make sure you have all necessary travel documents prepared.

Eurostar Cross-Border Travel Information

Category Information
General Information Eurostar is a high-speed train service connecting London (UK) with cities in mainland Europe including Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Lille. All immigration and customs checks are performed before boarding the train.
Visa Required
Visa Requirement Details UK passport holders do not need a visa for short stays (up to 90 days in any 180-day period) in the Schengen Area. Other nationalities may require a Schengen visa.
Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
ETA Details From 2025, non-visa nationals (including most EU citizens) traveling to the UK will need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). This is a separate requirement from the EU's EES.
E-Visa
E-Visa Link Visas are not arranged through an e-visa system for most short-stay purposes; they must be applied for in advance through the relevant embassy or consulate.
Visa On Arrival (At The Border)
Visa On Arrival Details Visas are not issued at the Eurostar terminal. You must have all required travel documents and visas in advance of your journey.
Passport Validity For travel to the Schengen Area, your passport must be less than 10 years old and valid for at least three months beyond the date you intend to leave the EU. For travel to the UK, your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay.
Immigration Process Passengers pass through both UK exit checks and the destination country's entry immigration at the departure station before boarding. This is different from bus travel where the process is at the border.
Entry/Exit System (EES)
EES Details The EU's new Entry/Exit System (EES) will replace passport stamping for non-EU nationals (including UK citizens). You will register your fingerprints and have a facial scan at a self-service kiosk. This information is stored for three years. On subsequent trips, you will only need to provide a facial scan.
Border Crossing Time The entire pre-boarding process (including security, immigration, and customs) typically takes 45-60 minutes, though it can be longer during peak periods. It is recommended to arrive 60-90 minutes before departure.
Luggage Check Or Custom Inspection
Luggage Check Or Custom Inspection Details All luggage is X-rayed at the security check before you proceed to passport control. Customs checks are conducted by border officials, with a focus on restricted and prohibited items.
Luggage Allowance 2 pieces of luggage (up to 85cm long) + 1 piece of hand luggage for Standard and Standard Premier tickets. Business Premier tickets allow 3 main bags. There is no weight limit, but you must be able to carry your own bags.
Prohibited Items E-scooters, hoverboards, and knives with blades longer than 75mm are prohibited. There are restrictions on the amount of alcohol you can carry.
Bus Companies Not applicable; this is a train service.
Loyalty Program
Loyalty Program Details Club Eurostar is the loyalty program. Members earn points for every Euro spent on tickets, which can be redeemed for free tickets, upgrades, and discounts. You can add your membership details when booking.
Check-in Process You must check in by scanning your ticket at the automated gates. Check-in closes 30 minutes before departure for most tickets.
Common Scams Not applicable at the secure station terminals. Passengers should be aware of standard travel scams (e.g., pickpocketing in crowded areas).
Tips For A Smooth Trip Arrive early (60-90 minutes before departure). Have your passport and tickets ready. Use the new EES kiosks for a quicker process. Place luggage on the X-ray scanner belt and walk through the metal detector.
Border Opening Hours The Eurostar terminal's security and passport control area typically opens 90 minutes before the first departure and closes 30 minutes before the last departure. The train service itself does not run 24/7.
Travel Insurance Strongly recommended. Not checked at the border, but essential for medical emergencies, delays, or theft.
Photos And Phones Do not take photos or videos inside the secure immigration and customs areas. It may be considered a security breach.
Emergency Contact Keep the local embassy/consulate contact details for the country you are visiting, along with Eurostar's customer service number.
