Avignon lies some 691 kilometres to the southeast of Paris and passengers can make the journey in under 3 hours on high-speed direct TGV trains. This makes it an ideal day trip from the French capital. An alternative, more scenic service, runs 4 times a day via the Rhone Valley for a total journey time of around 4 hours. Altogether, around a dozen services run daily with the leaving at 6:19 a.m. and the last at 9:07 p.m.
Trains from Paris to Avignon depart from the Gare d’Lyon on Place Louis Armand on the north bank of the river. Gare d’Lyon is very accessible via all modes of public transport. It’s on the Regional Express Network (RER) commuter train line, and on lines 1, 4, 5 and 14 of the Paris Metro. These terminate in Hall 3 under the station. Also many RATP bus routes service the station from all parts of the capital. These include a number of night bus services called Noctilens.
