How to Get to Alicante by Train:
Passengers wishing to travel from London to Alicante by train will need to make the journey in stages. A Eurostar train leaves from London St. Pancras to Paris Gare du Nord several times a day. From here passengers will need to cross Paris by metro or taxi to the Gare du Lyon. The double-decker TGV Duplex train makes the next stage to Barcelona. The train from London to Paris takes approximately 2.5 hours, followed by a 6.5 hour journey down to Barcelona. Travellers will then need to spend a night in the city before continuing their journey on the EuroMed train which leaving at 7:00 a.m. and arriving in Alicante approximately 5 hours later.
Alicante:
A good way to get a taste of Alicante's past as well as a panoramic view of the city and harbour is to visit the Castle of Santa Barbara on the top of Mount Benacantil. Walk the narrow, winding streets up to the castle, or take the elevator built into the mountain. The castle is one of the largest in Spain and rivals the Alhambra in Granada as an example of Moorish architecture. After viewing the castle, visitors can explore the old town of Alicante laid out at the foot of the mountain.

iryo is a new brand from railway operator ILSA operating in Spain since 2022. iryo uses Frecciarossa 1000 trains which are modern, can travel at up to 360km/h and have a minimal environmental impact. iryo’s Frecciarossa trains have different classes, all of which come with free unlimited WiFi, power sockets, toilets and an onboard entertainment portal where you can watch films and TV series. The main classes are: Infinita Class, Singular Café Class, Singular Class, Inicial Class. These new trains take 2 hours and 30 minutes to travel between Madrid and Barcelona. Renfe Alvia are high-speed trains with top speeds of up to 250km/h operated by Renfe, Spain’s national railway company. Alvia trains cover most cities in Spain, including Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Valencia, Alicante, Zaragoza and Cadiz. They are somewhat slower than Renfe AVE and AVLO (high-speed and low cost) but cover more destinations and are a comfortable and effective way of travelling around Spain. Onboard facilities include free WIFI, bike storage and luggage allowance. Alvia trains have two seat classes – Estándar and Confort. Renfe Avlo is Spain’s low-cost high-speed rail service operated by the national rail company Renfe.
