FAQ

Stansted Express Accessibility

Stansted Express trains are spacious and the platforms are all met with step-free access. There are lifts so those who are less able to climb the stairs can easily access the platform; those with luggage don't have to carry heavy items up the stairs. If you are travelling in a wheel-chair, ensure your journey runs smoothly, in case you need extra assistance, by pre-booking your assisted travel with Stansted Express 24 hours before your journey starts. Their care team will help you to make travelling more comfortable.

Stansted Express Luggage

The trains are specifically designed so that storing luggage for the journey is as easy as possible. There are several ways to store your items: in the overhead racks, under the seat in front of you and in the spacious luggage areas located throughout the train. Certain items of luggage are considered 'oversize' such as ski/snowboard bags and large suitcases, these are allowed onboard. There is no limit to how much luggage you are allowed to bring onboard; the most important thing is, that you can carry it. Remember that you must not leave luggage unattended.

Stansted Express Wifi and Services

Stansted Express Trains offer free Wifi to most services, and to all passengers. Click on the Stansted Express WiFi symbol; a few personal details may be required in order to use the service. Some trains may not be equipped with complete WiFi coverage, so please be aware of this.

Stansted Express Travelling with pets

Passengers are normally allowed to take pets with them on journeys, provided they are kept on a lead or in a cage. Small animals which are permitted on the train include cats, dogs, and other small animals (maximum 2 per person). They must not cause inconvenience or stress to other passengers, nor occupy any seats. Always check with Stansted Express should you have any concerns before travelling. Remember that pets must have a pet passport to be taken abroad.

Stansted Express Lost and Found

Should you lose any luggage or items of clothing or coats, report where and when you think you lost the item on the Stansted Express website. Their customer service will contact you if they retrieve it, or if it is handed in. Similarly, if you find anything on a train or at the station then hand it in to train station staff. Remember to keep clear of unattended luggage and inform a member of staff right away.

Stansted Express Bicycles

On Stansted Express trains you are only allowed to bring fold-up bikes. This tends to be a busy train service from the outset and therefore is not allowing passengers to bring bikes due to comfort and safety. If you are travelling with a bike ensure to lock it securely at the station in designated bike holds before boarding.

Stansted Express Delays

Should your train be delayed for any reason, or even cancelled, you have the right to claim for compensation. The delay repay scheme is based on how long the delay is. For example, if the train is delayed 30-59 minutes you can get 50% of the cost of our one-way ticket or 25% of the cost of the return ticket refunded. If the delay longer than this, expect more to be refunden (100% of a one-way ticket and 50% of a return, or 100% refund for 120-minute delay or longer).

Stansted Express Transport of minors

Although there is no minimum age a minor can travel, it's essential that children are aware of the risks of train travel. It is up to the parents to decide if the child is fit to travel. If a member of staff is worried about a child travelling on their own, they may inform the British Transport Police to ensure their safety.

Stansted Express Refunds and Cancellations

Some tickets may allow you to apply for a refund if the train is heavily delayed and cancelled. Due to their low price, Advance tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. For all other tickets, apply for a refund online at Omio using our cancellations page. For your claim to be considered, be sure to apply for a refund within 28 days of the ticket's expiry date.
