First Hull Trains is an open access train operator, which means it is not subject to franchising, that is now owned by the FirstGroup. This agreement is set in stone until at least December 2016. The service began in 2000, under the name Hull Trains and was formed as a solution to the growing need to connect the North East of England with London.
First Hull Trains operate just the one route from Hull to London; along which trains stop off at Brough, Howden, Selby, Doncaster, Retford, Grantham and Stevenage. Since 2000 when First Hull Trains first commenced services, its schedule has expanded year on year and now it operates 7 services every day. The direct journey from Hull to London King's Cross takes no longer than 3 hours.
Despite being one of the UK's smaller providers, First Hull Trains prides itself on the personal touch it offers passengers. Customer satisfaction is particularly high, with 95% satisfied customers in 2011. First Hull Trains offers a number of services on its trains, including a cafe bar that sells a variety of hot and cold snacks (often with great 2 for 1 offers), free Wi-Fi for all passengers, a complimentary magazine and the option of travelling with your bicycle. As the terminus of all First Hull Trains is London, travellers also have the option of purchasing pre-loaded Oyster Cards and Day Travel Cards on-board.
First Hull Trains offers Standard and First Class ticket fares. Holders of a First Class ticket receive complementary food and drinks in a separate, quiet carriage. Other ticket options include: Single, Return, Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak and Open Returns. Railcards can also be applied, with the possibility to save up to 1/3 off the fare.
