Pegasus Airlines History
Pegasus Airlines is Turkey's only private airline. In April 1990, Net and Silkar went into partnership with the Irish airline, Aer Lingus, to create a charter company running low-budget tours. At its outset, the only Pegasus asset was a pair of Boeing 737-400 planes. It was the first airline in the country to offer flights on A320neo planes, and has a stringent safety policy. Pegasus has flights to 97 destinations and in 2013, it carried a total of 16.8 million passengers.
Pegasus Airlines Airports and Destinations
The chief hub of Pegasus Airlines is Sabiha Gokcen International Airport in Istanbul, from which 126 of its flights leave, daily. 37 of these flights are to major Turkish cities, such as Izmir, Ankara, Adana and Antalya. 31 flights travel to north European destinations, such as London, Paris, Brussels, Madrid and Amsterdam, while the remaining flights go to cities in the middle east, like Tel Aviv, Beirut, Tehran, Dubai and Bahrain.
Pegasus Airlines Services
From its outset, Pegasus has offered low-budget, return flights to destinations popular with tourists. Promotion Pegasus is a programme that allows customers to purchase discounted tickets to selected destinations, on certain days. Passengers have the option of earning points with the Pegasus Plus programme. Points earned on flights can be exchanged in part or in full for other Pegasus flights, and to pay airline taxes and charges. Passengers travelling from Sabiha Gokcen International Airport receive discounted rates at the Ekopark car park.
Pegasus Airlines Ticket Types
There are three fare packages on Pegasus Airlines; Essentials, Advantage and Extras. The airline has one class of flight on all of its planes, and passengers on the Essentials fare package must pay for in-flight meals. Passengers on the Advantage package receive discounted meals. Menus are on view before the flight and passengers have the option of selecting dishes at least 24 hours in advance of flying. Passengers can also select seats, and are allowed up to 15 kg free baggage on domestic flights and 20 kg on international flights. Passengers on the Extras fare package are allowed 10 kg excess baggage on all flights, receive a hot meal without charge, and can claim a discount of up to 50% on ticket alterations and cancellations.
