Direct flights to city of Rennes in northwestern France are available from a few different airports in the UK: Southampton, Exeter and Manchester. Though flights from Exeter and Manchester are only seasonal, Southampton services Rennes all year round. All three routes are served by Flybe, and other airlines offering Rennes as a destination include Air France, Ryanair, Vueling, Aer Lingus and Chalair. Rennes has just the one airport, which is located around 6 km southwest of the city centre. The number 57 bus service operates from the République stop (near Place de la Mairie) to the airport and takes around 20 minutes, with buses departing every 15-30 minutes.
Rennes is the capital of Brittany, one of France's most stunning regions. It is the second-fastest growing metropolitan area in France and has a large student population. Brittany invests heavily in culture and the arts, and as such, Rennes is host to a number of music and cinematic festivals which draw in people from all over France. It also boasts four museums, the best of which is perhaps the Musée des Beaux Arts (Museum of Fine Arts) - whose collection spans Egyptian artefacts to modern paintings. One of the city's newest and most popular attractions is the botanical garden in the Parc du Thabor. The garden benefits greatly from Brittany's mild, temperate climate thanks to its proximity to the sea.
