The service between the capital cities of Czechia and Slovakia is frequent, and a choice of trains operates throughout the day. As the service is run by two operators, Czech-owned České Dráhy and RegioJet, passengers have some choice in departure time and price. Both operators take around four hours to make the journey through Czechia and across the border into Slovakia.
During the week, there are 12 trains a day running between Prague and Bratislava. The first departs shortly before 6:00 a.m. and the final train of the day leaves Prague at around 7:45 p.m. There is generally at least one service every two hours. However, as there are two operators on the route, some hours are served better than others. For example, passengers travelling between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. have the choice of two departure times.
At weekends, the service drops to only four trains a day, the first shortly after 7 a.m. and the last just after 5 p.m. Trains on Saturdays and Sundays run approximately every three hours.

Departure train station: The train from Prague to Bratislava departs from Praha Hlavní Nádraí, Prague's biggest railway station. It is located centrally and connected to the rest of the city by metro. Local trams and buses also stop directly outside, including the airport express service. As a modern station, it has all the services travellers would expect, such as shopping, food outlets, luggage lockers, and toilets.
Arrival train station: All trains from Prague arrive at Bratislava Hlavná Stanica, Bratislava's main train station. It is around 15-minutes' walk from the city's old town but is also well connected by trams, trolleybuses, and buses. Facilities include toilets, luggage storage, ATMs, and various food outlets and newsstands.

České Dráhy runs eight trains a day during the week to Bratislava, each taking around four hours to complete its journey. All services are direct, long-distance trains, only stopping at major stations.
RegioJet trains also take around four hours and run a service with no changes. They are also long-distance services that run throughout the week, with four trains a day.
On board České Dráhy services, both first and second-class seats are available. WiFi is available in certain carriages, and there's a restaurant car. While bicycles can be brought on board, a reservation is necessary. Dogs and other pets can be carried in all second-class coaches. Dogs must be muzzled and on a lead, and other pets must be in a suitable pet carrier. A ticket must be bought for each pet. Hand luggage can be brought on board, and oversized luggage can be transported for an additional fee. One coach is equipped to carry disabled passengers and has a lift to the platform.
RegioJet services have a variety of tariffs available, from low-cost to business, with different services in each. Disabled passengers should inform the company 24 hours in advance for boarding assistance to be organised. While RegioJet has no fixed luggage policy, passengers should only bring as much luggage as they can quickly and easily load themselves. Bikes can be carried on all services that have a low-cost car, but space must be reserved in advance. Pets are allowed on board, as long as they are contained in a cage or other container for the entire journey.
While there's not a big difference in prices for the train from Prague to Bratislava, there are some ways to save money when looking for a ticket. It's always advisable to book in advance and be flexible with travel dates. Some trains outside the peak travel times may also be cheaper.
