The first leg of this journey involves taking the fast train from Cambridge to London Kings Cross. This service runs four times an hour during weekdays with a reduced frequency at the weekend and late at night. Typical journey times into London are just over an hour. On arrival at Kings Cross, passengers will need to then get to Paddington; this can be done either on the 205 bus (which stops outside each terminus) or the Hammersmith & City Line of the tube.
Once at Paddington, the journey is continued aboard the First Great Western (GWR) train to Oxford. This is also a very reliable and frequent service with six trains an hour at peak times. This leg will take about an hour. In total, the combined journey will take just less than three hours. Each of the University towns is served by adequate public transport links and there are taxi ranks available at each of the four stations used by this journey.
