Travelling between the historic cities of Bruges and Ghent by train is a fast way of making the journey. The route is operated by Belgian Rail with trains having journey times of between 20 and 40 minutes. There are up to eight departures an hour from very early in the morning until late at night on a schedule that is similar seven days a week. All departures are from Bruges Station with arrivals at Ghent St Pieters Station.
There are several dozen departures of trains from Bruges to Ghent every day of the week, all of which are direct. The first departure is in the early hours of the morning at around 4:48 a.m., with up to eight trains leaving every hour until the final departure at around 11:30 p.m.
All trains from Bruges to Ghent have short journey times of between 20 and 40 minutes.
Departure train station: trains from Bruges to Ghent all depart from Bruges Station. This station is located within walking distance of the city's historic heart although this journey takes up to 30 minutes. Taxis and local buses also link the station to the city centre. Despite its small size, this is one of the busiest stations in Belgium, as Bruges is such a popular destination. Among its facilities are car parking, toilets, a ticket office, ticket machines, left-luggage storage and a refreshment bar. Step-free access to the station is provided by lifts, escalators and ramps. A wheelchair can also be borrowed if required.
Arrival train station: trains to Ghent from Bruges all terminate at Ghent St Pieters Station. Housed in an attractive historic building, the station is located southwest of the city centre. City attractions can be reached with 30 minutes of walking and trams and local buses are also available. Station facilities include car parking, a taxi rank, left-luggage storage, toilets, a ticket office, ticket machines and a refreshment bar. Services for passengers with limited mobility include step-free access, accessible toilets, induction loops and wheelchairs that can be borrowed.
