The background to the trip was of a private nature as a solo traveller. The on-board restaurant was used for a coffee on part of the journey (which was travelled by ICE) and met my expectations. The flexible ticket cost around €66 with a BahnCard 25 and seemed to me to cover a train journey of around 2 hours & 15 minutes (excluding the journey to the station and changeover time).

I travelled from Berlin to Chemnitz on the IC train. I didn't have to change trains on this journey. The train was very full at the beginning. The seats were comfortable and there were power sockets and good internet. I liked the staff best, as they were very cheerful and chatted to every passenger. There were also self-service coffee machines in the centre. Unfortunately, the toilet in my compartment was broken. I also found the journey time a little too long. If I had travelled on the regional train from Elsterwerda, I would have arrived in Chemnitz a few minutes earlier. Nevertheless, I can recommend the journey.

The journey from Berlin to Chemnitz takes 3.5 hours with a change in Leipzig. In the ICE, there is wifi, power sockets, seat reservation and several toilets. In the regional train there are only toilets. Price varies between 18 and 40 euros depending on when you book. The change takes a lot of time, you have about 45 minutes. On the other hand, it's handy to stretch your legs and eat. Comfort in the ICE is fine. I would use it again.

The train ride offered good facilities with wifi and power sockets at the seats, which made for convenient use of electronic devices during the journey. Overall comfort was satisfactory, with a pleasant temperature and acceptable noise levels. The food could be more varied, but the snacks and drinks were of good quality. The cleanliness of the toilets left something to be desired. The train staff were friendly and helpful. The train was always on time and the value for money was reasonable. Overall, the train journey was a positive experience, with small room for improvement in the cleanliness of the toilets.
