Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden and is popular for its great medical establishments, general services and education. The city also has a great reputation for its beautiful coastline, high-quality restaurants, and amazing seafood. Whilst it’s an ancient city with a lot of history, which dates back to the 19th century, it also has some brilliant modern amenities too. Since the 19thcentury, Gothenburg has evolved into a blossoming industrial contemporary city, with Gothenburg central train station being one of the main relics from this period. Being the oldest and largest train station in Sweden, it has 16 platforms that connect trains to many other major Swedish cities and other countries across the borders.

Gothenburg central station not only has local connections, but also regional, and international train connections too, with there being five different departure lines. The departure lines are the Norway/Vanern line, which travel to Erlangen, Oslo and the north; the Bogus line which goes towards Uddevalla, Stromstand and the north of the country, the coast-to-coast line which heads to Boras, Kalmar and to the southeast of the country, the west-coast line which travels toCopenhagen, Kungsbacka and west of Gothenburg, and the western main line which travels to the capital, Stockholm, Alingus and Lulea.

How far is it Gothenburg city centre to Gothenburg centralstation train station?

Gothenburg central station is varying distances from other areas of the city. The train station is about 0.7 miles (1.2 km) from the city conference, which is the central area of the city. It takes around 3min if you cycle or travel on a lime electric scooter, whilst it’s about a 5min walk if you follow the route past Ostra Lamgatan and Dottingtorget. If you were to take a tram from Gothenburg Museum of Arts then the journey would take about 10min to the train station. The tram lines that operate this route are 1, 4, and 10. You will depart from from Gothenburg Berzeliigatan, which is only a short walk from the museum and the trams depart every 15min or so. You can also take a bus from this museum, which takes about 11min to to get to Gothenburg Central train station.

The bus numbers that you can take for this route are numbers 18 and 50, whilst you can also take the Rod Ex service. There is also the option to walk or ride a bicycle from the art museum to the main train station, which tends to take 20min by foot and 11min cycling. It takes even less time on an electric scooter. The numbers 101,11, 4 and 1 tram lines will take you from Göteborg Brunnsparken to Gothenburg Central Station and they normally depart every 4min or so, with the journey also taking about 4min. You can also get bus line 6, which completes the same distance in about 4min too. This bus departs less frequently though, at around every 30min.

There is an extensive public transportation system in Gothenburg, which consists of buses, trams, commuter trains, boats and ferries. However, you can also reach some of the city’s best hidden gems by walking, hiring a bike, or going for a spin on one of the new electric scooters. From Gothenburg Central Station you can reach other parts of the city with ease, regardless of where you are going. You can use the tram station at Drottningtorget, which is a 1min walk from Gothenburg Central Station. This tram station operates tram lines 1, 3, 4, 7, 11, or 13. Alternatively you can also walk from Nils Ericson bus station to Gothenburg Central Station. Trams tend to be the best way to get around the city though, as they are fast, convenient and operate during both the day and night. You can use any of these modes of transport to get to Gothenburg Central Station, from where you can connect to various European destinations.

Flights that arrive into Gothenburg will land at Göteborg Landvetter Airport, which is the biggest of the three airports in the city and Gothenburg's only airport that operates international flights.
