Etihad Airways is the second largest Airline in the United Arab Emirates. Based in Kalifa City, near Abu Dhabi, the airline was founded in 2003. The name Etihad comes from the Arabic word for 'union' and Etihad Airways operates more than 1,000 passenger flights a week to 96 destinations across the world. Etihad is a big sponsor of sporting events and venues around the world. In 2013, the airline carried 10.3 million passengers.
Etihad Airways serves both domestic and international passengers and is one of the few carriers in the world with destinations on all six inhabited continents of the world. Its hub airport is Abu Dhabi International.
Etihad Airways has three cabin classes, Diamond First, Pearl Business and Coral Economy. First Class offers flat bed sleeping, as does Business Class on wide-body planes. Both classes have a fine dining service, personal TVs and dedicated airport lounges. Coral Class has onboard entertainment screens with over 600 hours of complementary films and games. Flights are single destination or offer connections with other airlines in its partnership agreement with Air Berlin, Virgin Australia and others. The airline also operates its own travel business, Etihad Holidays.
Etihad Airways sells a range of ticket types which include flexible and non-flexible tickets. Its website often has special deals and offers on selected routes. There is no charge for checked baggage on any Etihad flight. Passengers can also take two small items of hand luggage into the cabin. Seats are allocated at the point of booking, but passengers can change them at check in if they wish.
