Air Transat
Air Transat History
Air Transat is a Canadian airline founded in 1987 and based in Montreal, Quebec. Their first flight took place in November that year, flying passengers from Montreal to Acapulco. 6 years on, the airline took over the operational base and planes of the defunct airline Nationair, furthering their expansion into one of Canada’s largest airlines. Air Transat regularly flies over 3.5 million passengers annually and is the third largest Canadian airline, behind Air Canada and Westjet.
Air Transat Services
Air Transat specialises in scheduled and chartered flights from cities in Canada to popular holiday destinations, including Mexico, Florida and the Mediterranean. Flights with Air Transat are also available on select domestic routes within Canada as well as from European destinations to a variety of Canadian airports. In 2014, the airline was named the Best North American Leisure Airline for the third consecutive year, and came in second as the World’s Best Leisure Airline at the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards. In 2015, the airline will expand their European service by offering new connections as well as more frequent services to the continent.
Air Transat Airports and Destinations
Based in Montreal in the French-speaking province of Quebec, Air Transat currently offers the most scheduled flights from Canada to France of all Canadian airlines. This includes a twice daily service from Montreal, and six flights per week from Toronto. They are also the only airline providing direct services to Paris from Quebec City, Calgary and Vancouver. In 2015, flights to Budapest will begin as well, as more flights will be available for destinations including London, Athens, Marseille, Nantes, Lisbon, Barcelona, Rome and Venice. As a chartered airline, more flights are usually offered in the summer with budget prices making Air Transat a popular means for travelling between Canada and Europe.
Air Transat Ticket Types
Famous for offering great holiday destinations at affordable prices, Air Transat have a variety of fares in their economy class to cater to passengers with a range of budgets. This includes Eco, Eco Extra, and Eco Max. Eco offers the lowest ticket prices and the ability to make flight changes at an additional fee. Eco Extra also offers affordable tickets and the ability to make changes at a lower rate than Eco. The third option, Eco Max, offers the most flexibility when changing flights as well as cancellations with the lowest additional fee. All three fares allow a 23 kg checked baggage allowance and a choice of a hot meal. For more spacious flying, Club fares are also available. Larger seats in a separate seating section, dedicated flight attendants, a 40 kg checked luggage allowance, a welcome cocktail and gourmet in-flight food service, as well as rapid check-in and priority queuing are some of the services offered with Club fares. In-flight entertainment is available with all fares, and passengers with Android and iOS devices can download their free CinePlus app to enjoy on demand entertainment while flying to Europe, the United States, or the South.
