Air India History
Air India began its operations in 1932 as Tata Airlines. On the 29th of July 1946, it became a public limited company under the name Air India and in 1948 was rechristened Air India International after it was allowed to operate international services as India's flag carrier. The airline flies millions of passengers worldwide and is the airline of choice for many people travelling between India and the United States.
Air India Airports and Destinations
Air India offers both domestic and international flights, including codeshare routes to 31 overseas and 59 domestic destinations across four continents. Air India's main hubs are at Indira Gandhi International Airport and Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, in Delhi and Mumbai. Secondary hubs are at international airports in Chennai and Kolkata while another hub is being developed at Dubai International Airport.
Air India Services
Air India is committed to making flying an enjoyable experience for the easygoing holidaymaker, as well as the jet-setting business executive. The airline serves complimentary meals to suit various dietary and religious requirements, as well as meals for children and babies. While every traveller has access to in-flight audio-video entertainment and shopping, First and Executive Class passengers are offered complimentary limousine services and exclusive check-in privileges.
Air India Ticket Types
The airline offers First Class, Executive Class, and Economy Class tickets. Passengers can book flights and seats online and choose from a range of check-in options. There are many cost-saving schemes, including the Companion Scheme, where a companion flies for free, as well as student-friendly offers that include free extra baggage and a complimentary frequent flyer membership bundled with free mileage points. Passengers can join exclusive "clubs" to get bonus miles and special privileges. There is a charge for checked baggage that exceeds the Free Baggage Allowance weight limit.
