How to Get to Leipzig by Plane

Ryanair operates direct flights to Leipzig from London Stansted and there are a number of routes to the city from other destinations throughout Europe. The major airlines offering flights to Leipzig include KLM, Lufthansa, Germanwings, Austrian Airlines and Etihad Airways. Leipzig Halle Airport is located around 22 km from central Leipzig. Trains to and from the airport take approximately 15 minutes and leave every half hour.


The second largest city in Saxony, Leipzig is situated about 150 km south of Berlin. Leipzig became a major urban centre following the Secong World War and is now home to a wide assortment of fascinating museums, galleries and preserved cathedrals and castles. The city is renowned for its mix of architectural styles, from renaissance style buildings - such as the Old Town Hall which dates back to the mid-16th century - to more comtemporary designs. Pay a visit to the St. Thomas Church, where composer Johann Sebastian Bach worked as a cantor, and check out the Leipzig Botanical Garden, the oldest in Germany. For a taste of Leipzig's alternative scene, head to Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse in the south of the city - its bars, cafes and restaurants are incredibly popular among the local students.
