Established in 1965, it provides the fastest route across the Solent, connecting Southsea (Portsmouth) on the English mainland to Ryde on the Isle of Wight in under 10 minutes. Hovertravel utilizes two 12000TD hovercraft, the *Solent Flyer* and *Island Flyer*, each capable of carrying 78 passengers at speeds up to 40 knots. The company also offers a \Hoverbus\" service in Portsmouth, connecting its Southsea terminal to train stations and the city center. Beyond scheduled services, Hovertravel has a history of charter operations and is actively involved in projects to make hovercraft travel more sustainable, including exploring hydrogen as an alternative fuel."
