Travel from Boston to Logan International

What's the best way to get to Logan International from Boston city centre?

If you're travelling to the airport from Boston City Centre, you've got a number of cheap and accessible options. The Silver Line Route rapid transit service, running from 5:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. every day, is perhaps your most convenient option for getting to the airport. This coach service picks you up at South Station, where you can connect using Amtrak or MBTA subways, and takes you directly to Logan Airport, making drop-offs at each of the airport terminals. In all, the trip shouldn't take more than half an hour. Additionally, you can take the MBTA subway if you're on the Blue Line already, as Logan Airport is a station on that line. You also have the option of taking the shuttle coach, with pick-ups at Braintree, Framingham, Peabody and Woburn, and drop-offs at each of the airport terminals.

How far is it from Boston city centre to Logan International?

Using the MBTA's subway or Silver Line services will mean anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes of travel time. MBTA coaches 448 and 459 serving the Logan Airport will run you 25 to 40 minutes of travel time before you're at the airport. If cost isn't a factor, taking a taxi will split that travel time in half, taking about 15-30 minutes, unless traffic is heavy, for a fare roughly between $35 and $70 USD (October 2019). For a scenic option, you can take a water taxi. You'll have to get to Logan Dock, jump in a water taxi, and then take the courtesy coach 66 to the airport. This should give you a travel time of 20 minutes from the docks.

However, if you require special assistance to and from a gate or are in need of medical equipment, such as a wheelchair or oxygen mask, you will have to acquire a pass provided by the airline. Shuttle coaches serving Logan International are also well equipped with wheelchair lifts and audio-visual cues and announcements for oncoming stops. Those with heavy luggage will be pleased to know that the courtesy shuttle coach serving Airport Station (on the Blue Line) has plenty of room for luggage, and luggage carts can be purchased at the airport for a nominal fee.

If you're looking to travel like a Bostonian, the truest method is to use the aforementioned Silver Line coach route, as this will pick you up and drop you off right at South Station, where you'll find several connecting trains and coaches. You also have the option of taking a courtesy shuttle coach to the airport, which will take you directly from Airport Station on the Blue Line.  It will cost $2.75 USD (fare subject to change) to access the subway platform to get to Airport Station, but once you're on the shuttle, there'll be plenty of room for you and your luggage. Logan International has plenty of eateries in each terminal, so you don't need to worry about packing a snack. In fact, the public transportation service to and from the airport is designed to be visitor-friendly, so you shouldn't have to worry about parking, and you'll be able to avoid the trouble and expense of renting and driving a car.
