Train Stations in Belgium

The rail system in Belgium is largely operated by National Railway Company of Belgium (SNCB in French, NMBS in Dutch). They offer extensive transport connections and railway infrastructure to rural, urban and international destinations. The country is a member of the International Union of Railways (UIC in French). Some of the busier stations in Belgium include Brussels-South (also known as Brussel-Zuid and Bruxelles-Midi, and connected to the Brussels' Gare du Midi/Zuidstation Metro station), Brussels-North (Bruxelles-Nord, Brussel-Noord), Brussels Central Station (Bruxelles-Central, Brussel-Centraal) and Schuman Station, all of which are found in the capital. Besides these, Gent-Sint-Pieters, Antwerp Central (Antwerpen-Centraal), and Leuven Station are some of the country's most regularly used stations.

Brussels-South (Brussel-Zuid/Bruxelles-Midi)

This is the largest station in Belgium, with 22 platforms and approximately 55,000 passengers passing through here each weekday. The station offers international connections provided by Thalys and Eurostar, as well as Metro and bus services to other destinations within Brussels. The tallest building in Belgium, the South Tower, stands outside the main entrance. The facility itself contains food courts, chocolatiers, cafes, a hair dressers, money exchange counters, a small supermarket, Wi-Fi and cash machines.

Brussels-North (Bruxelles-Nord/Brussel-Noord)

Though the station is not connected to the Metro system, it does offer tram and bus connections. Nearly 50,000 passengers make use of its 12 platforms each day during the week. It offers high speed and international rail services - mainly provided by Deutsche Bahn - and national services to urban and rural areas in Belgium. Luggage lockers, restaurants/cafes and free bike parking are available here.

Brussels Central Station (Bruxelles-Central/Brussel-Centraal)

Over 50,000 passengers make use of this station and its 6 platforms on a daily basis. International and national journeys are offered here, as well as Matro services from the Gare Centrale which is just a five minute walk away. As the facility is centrally located, there is a large number of services and sights (such as the Grand Palace) on site, or very close by.

Gent-Sint-Pieters

Nearly 55,000 passengers a day use this major hub in Ghent, which offers international services from Thalys and national services via SNCB. Bus and tram connections are offered from here, but the station doesn't lie on a Metro line. Free bike parking, a bar and restaurant, and luggage lockers are available on site.

Antwerp Central (Antwerpen-Centraal)

The main station of Antwerp sees just under 35,000 daily passengers making use of its 14 platforms. It is widely regarded as one of the world's most beautifully constructed stations, with its large dome earning it the nickname of the "Railway Cathedral". Due to its central location many services and sights are available in or very close by to the station, including shops, restaurants, luggage lockers, and bus services.
