Thomas Cook History
Since Thomas Cook started a cheap rail link for his local temperance service in Leicestershire in 1841 his company has become one of the world's biggest global travel services. The company was sold to the country's four main rail providers following WWII to prevent its collapse, but by the 1950's and 60's Thomas Cook & Son was taking full advantage of the growing trend for overseas vacations. Several sales, mergers and re-sales later Thomas Cook plc is a leader in leisure travel and is listed on the British Stock Exchange.
