About Lanzarote
Lanzarote has many resort towns and villages dotted over the island. Two of the best are Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca, two beach side resorts that typify all that is great about Lanzarote.
Climate
The weather in Lanzarote, similar to the rest of the Canary Islands, is pleasant all year round. The warmest months of the year are August and September, while the most mild time to visit is January and February.
Language
The official language of Lanzarote is Spanish.
Getting to Lanzarote
There is only one airport on Lanzarote, which is known as Lanzarote or Arrecife Airport. It is located 10km from Puerto del Carmen and 20km from Playa Blanca. There are buses that run from outside of the airport and connects to the rest of the island, taxi's are available from outside of arrivals and are available to pre-book.
How to Get Around Lanzerote
There is a good public transport system in Lanzerote, although the majority of tourists like to walk or hire their own car to enjoy the scenery at their own pace. Taxis are affordable and reliable for getting around the towns and buses or taxis can take visitors to smaller towns on the island.
Places to Visit

The beaches in Lanzarote are what make the island so well known. You’ll find many all over the island, but if you want the best, check out Famara and Papagayo, which are the most peaceful and most picturesque.
Timanfaya National Park
Timanfaya National Park is home to the 'Fire Mountains' which formed after the volcanic explosions of 1730-1736 and is well worth a visit. The area has been a national park since 1968 and although visitors aren't permitted to walk around freely within the park, a coach tour is included in the entrance fee.
Guinate Tropical Park
In a stunning setting at the foot of the extinct volcano of Monte Corona, the Guinate Tropical Park is home to more than a thousand species of bids and animals. The park is not only a great place for families, but also for nature lovers, with waterfalls, gardens and streams.

Hiking
The landscape of Lanzarote offers beautiful hiking trails and is one of the best ways to get a feel for and explore the island. There are many marked trails all around the island, and a few companies that offer walking tours within the cities.
Cycling
The weather and the landscape make many visitors go back to Lanzarote every year especially for the cycling routes. The weather on the island is predictable, staying mostly dry, making it perfect for cycling holidays. Visitors can find special routes for bikes, or follow the roads to explore the island independently.
Water Sports
Water sports are the most popular activity on the island, with snorkelling, surfing and para-sailing available all over the coast. There are many companies based around the beaches that offer equipment hire and lessons for beginners.
Events
San Juan
Especially to mark the beginning of summer locals gather around bonfires all over the island with traditional music and food and dancing. The festival takes place on the evening of the 23rd June to the 24th.
Visual Music Festival
This cultural event holds international importance and has been taking place on the island since 1989. Bands perform inside of stunning auditoriums, built inside of volcanic caves, making it one of the most impressive festivals anywhere in the Canary Islands. The festival takes place annually in October.
Carnival
Carnival is one of the most popular events on the island, with music, costumes, dancing and competitions, both locals and tourists come to experience the Carnival.
