Just across the River Mersey from Liverpool, Birkenhead is a relaxed, friendly coastal town with plenty of Victorian architecture, welcoming pubs and accommodation. It's a great base to use if you want to see Liverpool or Manchester while avoiding the crowds.

Flights to Birkenhead
The easiest way to travel to Birkenhead from outside the UK is by flying into Liverpool John Lennon Airport. John Lennon International Airport is a few kilometres to the east of Birkenhead, and you can easily travel from the airport via rail connections. Airlines using the airport include budget airlines Ryanair, Easyjet, Vueling and Flybe, and there are regular flights from London, Dublin and Paris.
Trains to Birkenhead
If you want to travel to Birkenhead by train, there are three major stations in the town - Birkenhead Central, Birkenhead Park and Birkenhead North. This means that you should easily be able to walk from a station to your town centre accommodation. All of the stations in Birkenhead are on the Wirral Line, which runs into Liverpool Central along with other nearby destinations like New Brighton or Ellesmere Port. All trains are operated by Merseyrail.
Buses to Birkenhead
Birkenhead is part of the Mersey region bus network, so you can easily travel to Birkenhead from Liverpool by bus. The town also has a National Express coach stop, connecting Birkenhead to destinations like Bangor, London and Manchester. The coach station is located at Conway Park, right at the heart of the town centre, so it should be convenient for most accommodation. If you are travelling from Liverpool, the best idea is to catch the 471 or 472 buses (in the direction of Heswall).
