Casa de la Vall
National museum in a historic house, presenting Andorran life, politics and interiors from earlier centuries.
The tiny principality of Andorra is a fantastic visitor destination at all times of year, but really comes into its own during the winter ski season. The Catalan population of Andorra is extremely welcoming to visitors and plays host to several million tourists and holidaymakers each year. There is not an airport in Andorra, other than the Andorra Airport La Seu d'Urgell which is mainly available for use by private planes, helicopters, etc, although Andorra Airlines and Air Andorra do operate out of the airport.
Andorra Airport is about ten miles away from the principality and located across the border in Spain. It only offers flights by two Andorra startup airlines, and these tend to be an extremely expensive option for most travellers. The two main airports for visitors to Andorra are Barcelona el Prat or Toulouse Airport in France.
Visitors to Andorra tend to fly into Barcelona or Toulouse Airports and both offer affordable public transport links onwards to Andorra. Barcelona El Prat is an international airport and budget airlines easyJet and Ryanair both fly into the city on a regular basis. Toulouse-Blagnac Airport is also popular with visitors to the Andorra region, and most flight arrivals tend to originate from the most popular European airports.
Flying to Andorra is definitely the quickest and most comfortable mode of travel to the region, although it is also possible to take a train most of the way or to drive. Driving to Andorra or taking a train will result in much longer journey times. The peaceful solitude travellers experience in Andorra and its range of good quality hotel accommodations, mean it's popular with hikers, walkers and ski or snow enthusiasts.
There isn't a railway station in Andorra, so travelling from Barcelona or Toulouse Airports by bus or shuttle is probably the most affordable option. Alternative airports for flights to Andorra include Carcassonne and Girona which can be great for travellers sourcing direct flights from regional airports close to home. It's easy to get around Andorra by public bus services and the most popular city destination is Andorra la Vella. One important tip for visitors planning to drive in the principality during winter visits is to expect snowy, icy conditions and ensure any hire car is fitted with winter tyres and snow chains are supplied.
