Travelling is often seen as a joyous event. However, it can be challenging for the estimated 275 million people who suffer from anxiety disorders in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Travel has been both an exhilarating and stressful experience for me: from the freedom you feel taking off to the constant buzzing in your ear telling you that something\u2019s gonna go terribly wrong, I can\u2019t tell you how many times I\u2019ve thought, \u201cI\u2019m gonna lose my passport, I\u2019m gonna miss my bus, I\u2019m gonna drop my phone in the water, I\u2019m gonna get arrested because some random put drugs in my luggage\u2026\u201d The list is endless. Here are some useful tips that have helped me get things under control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How safe is train travel?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"32936\" src=\"http:\/\/www.omio.co.uk\/window-seat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/michal-parzuchowski-dmH3NWhYTHQ-unsplash_2-1024x677.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32936\"\/><figcaption>Make sure you arrive with time to get familiar with the station when traveling by train. Credit: Michal Parzuchowski\/Unsplash<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to travelling by train, organisation is key. Stations can be neat, but they can also be chaotic and they\u2019re never as well signed as airports, so it\u2019s easy to get confused. Sometimes trains depart from a different platform, diverge into two after a certain stop or miss some stops altogether. To that, add the panic of not being sure which stop is yours and you\u2019re sure to feel incredibly anxious, especially if you don\u2019t know the language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve found that carrying a notepad with all your travel information and drawing a map of the station and the surrounding area helps. Yes, you can use Google Maps, but if you\u2019re as bad at orientation as I am, sometimes a silly drawing that you\u2019ve created will ease your mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"32943\" src=\"http:\/\/www.omio.co.uk\/window-seat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/shutterstock_641851309_2-1024x677.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32943\"\/><figcaption>Get real-time notifications and updates with the Omio app and travel with confidence. Credit: Shutterstock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omio.com\/apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Omio app<\/a> and make sure you activate the notifications so you can receive live updates of any platform changes and enjoy my favourite feature\u2014it tells you when your stop is coming up so you won\u2019t get lost! But travelling by road has improved in recent years, with more comfortable seats, personal entertainment systems and power outlets, free Wi-Fi and complimentary drinks. I\u2019ve long feared getting motion sickness and someone stealing my luggage during a stopover. But I have a remedy for both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-4 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"32956\" src=\"http:\/\/www.omio.co.uk\/window-seat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/shutterstock_1172576203_2-1024x677.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32956\"\/><figcaption>You won\u2019t have to&nbsp; roll the windows down: Avoid motion sickness by sitting in the middle of the bus. Credit: Shutterstock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"you-won-t-have-to-roll-the-windows-down-avoid-motion-sickness-by-sitting-in-the-middle-of-the-bus-credit-shutterstock\">If you suffer from motion sickness, make sure you sit in the middle of the bus, as that\u2019s the most stable part of the vehicle. Also, carry a perfumed handkerchief with you and inhale the scent when you start feeling dizzy\u2014this is a tip from my grandfather, so you can be sure it\u2019s been tried and tested! Bring a few wet wipes and anti-bac gel for trips to the toilet. And if you fear luggage thieves: Get off at every stop. This way, you can keep an eye on your property while you stretch your legs. One in six people have a fear of flying and while it can be assuaged by <strong>medication for flight anxiety<\/strong> or booze, we recommend a healthier approach.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some airlines, such as easyJet, have started their own programs to help nervous flyers. The Fearless Flyer course combines psychological techniques with easy-to-digest knowledge (what is the science behind turbulence?) about plane mechanics. Because nothing beats fear like facts!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re not afraid of flying but find the check-in and boarding ordeal unbearable, there are ways to make the experience more chill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-7 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"32980\" src=\"http:\/\/www.omio.co.uk\/window-seat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/oliur-1JNk998-g70-unsplash_2-846x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32980\"\/><figcaption>Pack the things you\u2019ll have to take out of the bag for security on the top, to make your life easier. Do some breathing exercises on the way to the airport, as this might be the most stressful part of the journey.
