Rynek, the Market Square in the center of Wrocław, is the best starting point for a stroll around the city. It is surrounded by impressive buildings such as the old town hall, built in the gothic style, which houses one of the oldest restaurants in Europe. If you head north from here and cross the Oder river you will arrive at Cathedral Island, Ostrów Tumski. Wander through the magnificent gardens that surround the St. John the Baptist Cathedral, which dates back to the 13th century, or take the elevator to the top of the building for a stunning view over the city. Walking back towards the old town, make sure to visit the huge market hall in Piaskowa street, where you can buy fresh produce as well as the famous Polish specialty pierogi, or filled dumplings, for a quick snack. Did you notice the small dwarf sculptures that dot the whole city? There are more than 350 of them, and if you would like to go 'dwarf hunting' you can get a map to their locations at the tourist office or download the corresponding app for your phone. See how many of them you can find during your walk through the city center of Wrocław.
