It’s on the southern coast, from where you can see the infamous Mount Vesuvius volcano. The best observation point is from the Lungomare beach promenade, where you’ll also find Castel Ovo that contains the Naples Etho_Prehistory Museum. For more ancient history there’s the National Archaeological Museum. Capodimonte Royal Palace and Museum is another landmark, used as an Italian holiday getaway home by King Charles III, and now housing the National Gallery containing works by Titian, Caravaggio, El Greco, and Bellini. It also has a unique room totally lined with porcelain, Salottino di Porcellana. The Catacombs of San Gennaro date back to the 2nd_century and are lined with precious artworks. Part of the complex is the Crypt of the Bishops, and underground basilica built in the 5th century. This is one of the rarest examples of early Christian architecture in the world.
