Arriving in Marseille

Marseille is an ancient city, first founded by Greek settlers more than two thousand years ago. It has been a vibrant and busy port city ever since, and today it is one of the most exciting and cosmopolitan cities in France. The streets around the vibrant Noailles Market, just north of the Old Port, are full of exotic aromas and are delightful to explore. The Old Port is another great hangout spot, popular among travellers and locals alike. Once the commercial heart of Marseille, the Old Port is now home to fishing boats, sleek yachts and elegant sailing ships. Le Panier is the oldest part of Marseille and is full of narrow, atmospheric alleyways and tiny craft shops. The charming Petit Train offers tourists a fun train ride through Le Panier or up to the magnificent hilltop basilica of Notre Dame de la Garde.
