Before you travel to Florence by train - good to know!

The Duomo that sits at the heart of Florence is an amazing sight, covered in white and green marble. Incredibly, its red-bricked dome was not completed for 150 years following the building of the main structure. Today, visitors flock from all over the world to see Fillippo Brunelleschi’s masterpiece, and it has become the symbol of Florence. Not far from the Duomo is the Basilica di San Lorenzo. Filled with frescoes and sculptures, it houses the tombs of many Medici family members. Visitors should be aware that a number of Florence’s churches, art museums and palaces use a timed ticket entrance system. Because of its connection with the history of banking, Florentine tours dedicated to this theme are available from private operators. The majority of these tours encompass the city’s art and architectural heritage. Shoppers can seek high-quality fashion goods on the Via Tornabuoni, while excursions to the nearby towns of Fiesole and Settignano are among many Tuscan tours on offer.
